Netflix introduced its gaming division some time ago, mainly focused on mobile games, with popular series such as Stranger Things, Squid Game and Wednesday. Recent reports indicate that Netflix is currently in negotiations to license the rights to a Grand Theft Auto (GTA) game from Take-Two Interactive, the game’s publisher.
These speculations arose when the streaming company began offering licensed games such as Balloons TD 6 and Valiant Hearts, which were a departure from their usual content. Subscribers can play these games for free through the Netflix app. The main goal is to retain existing users rather than using games as a way to attract potential customers.
In addition to this, the development of GTA 6 is currently underway. Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games are expected to release GTA 6 between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025.
Therefore, there are many rumors circulating regarding the game. This includes the main characters, location, and the possibility of incorporating crypto-related elements. Nonetheless, crypto-related claims lack concrete evidence. There are, however, other unfounded speculations. Several leaks have provided insight into the game’s initial development plans, including the likelihood that GTA 6 will be based in a Vice City-inspired setting in Miami.

So, is Netflix really partnering with GTA?
According to an analyst cited by the Wall Street Journal, Netflix has invested $1 billion in gaming and is set to expand its gaming service to include AAA titles. The company is also actively looking to recruit more gaming executives.
However, the official official of Netflix position on the possibility of a GTA game appearing on their platform is that it is currently only “rumors” and “speculation”. They also chose not to provide additional comments on the topic.
