Schoolchildren will crack the code during a hackathon
The Delhi Education Department is organizing a ‘hackathon’ for students of classes IX to XII, in collaboration with I Hub Foundation for Cobotics. The event aims to create a competitive coding atmosphere for students to showcase their talent and take on real-world challenges. Themes include sustainable mobility, waste management, the future of jobs and equity. The hackathon will consist of several stages, including a preliminary round and a grand finale. Additionally, the education department has prepared a curriculum on artificial intelligence and machine learning for school students.
Electoral Commission and Ministry of Education collaborate to promote electoral literacy in schools and colleges
The Election Commission of India has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Education to integrate electoral literacy into the curriculum of students in classes 6 to 12 and colleges and universities. The goal is to educate students about the electoral process, democratic values and the importance of being informed and responsible voters. The initiative also aims to combat voter apathy, particularly among young and urban voters, and encourage students to register to vote at the age of 18. The content will be integrated into textbooks and extracurricular activities, and universities will offer courses on democracy education.
Israeli raids kill 6 Palestinians in West Bank: ministry
Israeli forces killed six Palestinians in separate raids in the West Bank, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry. Three men were killed in the town of Jenin, two in Hebron and one in the Qalandiya refugee camp. The Israeli military said it was “operating against Hamas” in the West Bank. Violence has been escalating in the West Bank since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas leaders in Gaza. More than 140 Palestinians have been killed in clashes with Israeli troops or settlers since October 7.
