It’s once again time for hockey fans to put their goaltending knowledge to the test.
The NHL’s Pepsi Zero Sugar Goalie Challenge is back for a second season, and fans will be able to win prizes based on the goalies they choose each Tuesday during the regular season.
This competition allows NHL fans to showcase their knowledge by selecting an NHL team in each category (wins, saves, but allowed) for games played on Tuesday. The competition begins on October 10, the opening night of the 2023-24 season, when all three games will be presented on ESPN.
It all kicks off with the Nashville Predators visiting the Tampa Bay Lightning (5:30 p.m. ET; ESPN, ESPN+). The action continues with the debut of Connor Bedard, the first overall pick in the 2023 draft, with the Chicago Blackhawks against Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins (8 p.m. ET; ESPN, ESPN+). Finally, the Vegas Golden Knights will raise their banner as Stanley Cup champions before facing the Seattle Kraken (10:30 p.m. ET; ESPN, ESPN+).
Fans will have to choose a team that they think will win, the team that will allow the fewest goals, and another that will make the most saves. To obtain bonus points, fans must select a team of goalkeepers who will sign a whitewash by affixing the Pepsi Zero Sugar logo to them.
The home page for this game, which launches on mobile and desktop on Wednesday, will show the goalies expected to get the start for NHL games each Tuesday, along with average team stats and predictions from Pete Jensen . , Anna Dua and David Satriano, of the NHL.com poolers team.
In order to make their choices, users will also be able, rather than making their choices manually, to use the “Random choice” option so that their selection is made at random by a computer in each of the categories.
