The Web3 Foundation is delighted to announce that East Polkaport received a grant under the Decentralized Futures program.
Polkaport East is poised to become a central hub for growth and investor relations in Hong Kong, with the aim of establishing a permanent and vibrant Polkadot community in one of the world's leading financial centers. This initiative will not only support existing Polkadot holders and investors, but also attract new teams and institutional investors to the ecosystem.
- Attracting new institutional investors to Polkadot and retaining existing ones Hong Kong is home to a significant number of family offices and crypto VCs. Polkaport East will engage these stakeholders through events, thereby encouraging continued and increased investment in Polkadot and its parachains.
- Attracting new teams to build on Polkadot By hosting a series of events, Polkaport East will serve as a funnel for Web3 projects transitioning to Polkadot. These events will showcase Polkadot’s technical prowess and facilitate collaborations with Parity Asia to support these new entrants.
- Providing a physical “home base” for the local Polkadot community Inspired by the vision of “Polkadot Hubs,” Polkaport East will provide coworking space to the community. This space will regularly host a series of lectures and serve as a nexus for local and visiting Web3 developers.
- A common workspace: A space dedicated to members of the Polkadot community to collaborate and innovate.
- Monthly meetings: Regular gatherings to discuss advancements and opportunities within the Polkadot ecosystem.
- Main/fireside chats: Monthly sessions featuring key figures from the blockchain and investment industries.
- Investor dinners: Exclusive events aimed at fostering direct interactions between VCs and ecosystem builders.
- Annual conferences: Major events coinciding with important industry gatherings like Web3 Festival HK and HK Fintech Week.
Polkaport East is led by Max Rebolco-founder of Harbor Industrial Capital, leveraging strong relationships with family offices and venture capital firms. Vincent Chanformerly at Parity and Astar, brings expertise in marketing, community building and event organization. Thibault Perréardhead of growth at Bifrost, brings with him strong ties to venture capital firms and developers based in Asia.
After the first year, Polkaport East plans to either seek additional funding through OpenGov or move to a self-sustaining model through membership dues, event tickets and sponsorships.
