π The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust is trialling smart technology to help make hospital wards a calmer place for patients and staff. Software is being implemented in the maternity ward to silence patient call ringtones and direct sound alerts to staff cell phones. The pilot project will measure noise reduction and associated benefits and, if successful, extend it to other departments within the hospital.
β OneAdvanced Health and Care's cloud software will be deployed by NHS National Services Scotland to help GP practices across the country process, share and store their electronic documents. The solution will replace an older version of OneAdvanced software and is expected to be fully implemented in more than 900 practices by next year.
π A new research paper has revealed how new medical devices, combined with advanced machine learning techniques, could offer a promising alternative to traditional spirometry for diagnosing chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The article, developed by TidalSense, integrates data from five clinical studies. Interpretable machine learning was used to diagnose COPD and assess its severity using 75-second carbon dioxide (CO2) breathing recordings captured in these studies with TidalSense's N-Tidal capnometer.
π Spotify founder Daniel Ek's health tech startup Neko Health opened its first body scanning facility in Stockholm in February last year and has completed 3,000 scans. It is now heading to London with a launch planned for this summer.
π± Results from the Bladder Viding Disorder Therapy (BEST) trial revealed that an app-based therapy can lead to significant improvements in lower urinary tract systems seen by millions of men. The study explored pelvic floor training, behavioral therapy and bladder control techniques, all offered as app-based therapy.
