Epic Games announced that it would open the Epic Games Store and Fortnite on Apple's iOS in the UK in the second half of 2025 thanks to a new competition law.
The Epic Games Store and Fortnite have disappeared on iOS since Epic Games sued Apple for alleged antitrust violations in 2020. Since then, Epic has largely lost the antitrust lawsuit, although it won a small point where the US courts ruled it illegal for Apple to prevent developers on iOS from promoting alternative online stores to users, particularly when it meant lower prices were possible for consumers outside of the App Store.
Epic also sued Google and won its antitrust case in a lower court. But this decision will be subject to the appeal procedure. Meanwhile, the European Union has passed the Digital Markets Act, which holds “gatekeeper” platforms accountable for fairness rules when it comes to allowing third-party online stores or app stores for sale games also sold on the main platforms.
The UK also has its own competition law in place, and that's what Epic Games is excited about.
