What you should know:
– EHR leader based in Verona, Wisconsin Epic Systems began construction of its sixth campus, aptly named “Other Worlds”, Ceiling times first reports.
– Following approval this month from the city's Plan Commission, the whimsical addition continues the company's tradition of drawing inspiration from fantasy literature for its office designs.
Inspired by Narnia and Lord of the Rings
Other Worlds will draw inspiration from beloved fantasy works like “The Chronicles of Narnia” and “The Lord of the Rings.” The first three buildings in development include:
- Elvendell: Evoking the elven city with references to sculpture, masonry and blacksmithing.
- Azlande: A nod to CS Lewis's Narnia, with a “giant wardrobe” entrance.
- Floating forest: A glass structure adorned with trees, resembling an alien landscape.
An underground cafeteria named “Underhill” pays homage to JRR Tolkien’s hobbits, while the parking structure is called “Black Hole.”
Fueling growth through innovation
Epic's expansion reflects the company's remarkable growth. Since its creation in 1979, the company has more than 13,000 employees, including 12,500 in Verona. This increase is due to the widespread adoption of their software, which currently manages the health records of 305 million patients. Construction is still underway on Epic's fourth and fifth campuses, where new buildings are expected to open later this year. Sci-Fi, part of the Storybook campus, is expected to open in June. Guilds and Creatures, both part of the Wizards Academy campus, are expected to open in the fall. Epic expects the first of the buildings to be occupied in early 2026.
