The web version of Threads could soon be much more useful. Meta begins testing personalization which will allow users to track multiple topics, searches and accounts in a single view.
Test participants can set “pinned columns” that will track updates to specific topics, tags, accounts, or search terms. Users can also choose to automatically refresh these columns with new content. Based on screenshots shared by Mark Zuckerberg, the new Threads columns look like a lot like Tweetdeck, the desktop app long favored by Twitter power users. The application is now called and only available to paid subscribers of X.
The test is the latest sign that Meta is looking to make Threads a more reliable source of real-time information. The company also added a tab and topics to research. But being able to track multiple update feeds at once is even more useful. It could also address long-standing complaints about Threads' algorithmic “for you” feed, which tends to surface a random mix of days-old posts and bizarre personal stories from unconnected accounts.
It's unclear how many people will participate in Meta's initial testing of the feature, although Adam Mosseri said the company is seeking feedback on the changes. But the company has often rolled out major changes to Threads to small groups of users before making them more widely available.
