BURBANK, California, May 15, 2024 – The first-ever documentary film from Emmy®-winning animation collective Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, Annie and Clio, will premiere on May 29 at Consensus 2024, the world's largest crypto event, and will then be available for free on X from June 1st.
SHARK, PICKLE, CONE – Documentary on Names to Premiere May 29 at Consensus 2024
SHARK, PICKLE, CONE A documentary on namesproduced in association with Decentral Media, is both a chronicle of Stoopid Buddy's creative journey to conceive, design and build a massive float for the Rose Parade and an introduction to the growing digital arts initiative called Names, which financed the project. It also explores the promise – and potential pitfalls – of blockchain technologies for mobilizing communities and creating new funding, monetization and distribution avenues for independent artists, filmmakers, technologists and NGOs.
Imbued with the irreverent humor and laid-back approach that characterizes Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, SHARK, CORINCH, CONE was filmed in 2022 and 2023, as a team from Stoopid Buddy begins working with Nouns on creating a float for the 134th Rose Parade with the goal of introducing Nouns to a global television audience.
Even though the film highlights the global community that made Nouns one of the most sustainable projects to come out of the NFT and blockchain bubble of 2021, SHARK, CORINCH, CONE also captures the drama and uncertainty that shook the world of digital finance in November 2022, when the cryptocurrency exchange FTX suddenly and dramatically collapsed.
Before his world debut at Consensus in Austin, Texas, SHARK, CORINCH, CONE was also created as an NFT itself, in collaboration with Zora. This is the first feature-length documentary film made on blockchain. Through bonfire.xyz, SHARK, CORINCH, CONE will offer secure access to hours of original interviews and archived bonus material since the film was made.
“Nouns is a great experience, the Rose Parade was a great experience, and now the creation of this documentary continues that innovation, both in its subject matter and in the process by which it was made, which eschews all traditional methods of financing and distribution of a film,” says producer and director Neil Berkeley (.Beauty is embarrassing, Gilbert, Harmontown). “NFTs and Nouns’ vision demonstrate that there are exciting and different ways to bring a film to the screen. Old modes don't work. It's a new mode.
SHARK, PICKLE, CONE A documentary on names features interviews with the founders of Nouns and its most active members. The film examines many of the real-world projects that came to life thanks to funds raised during Nouns' daily digital avatar auctions, while examining the challenges and conflicts that arise within the DAO, or “decentralized autonomous organization.” , which, by design, lacks traditional, centralized leadership centers to guide its development.
“Many people have no idea what an NFT is or how a DAO works, but it is very clear that these still unknown concepts have a huge influence around the world,” says producer Eric Towner, also co-founder. by Stoopid Buddy Stoodios. “Our goal was to create a film that illuminates these ideas, while also providing a fun and engaging look at the real difficulties that exist in any creative endeavor.”
SHARK, CORINCH, CONE is also produced by David Heiman, with Seth Green, John Harvatine IV, Matthew Senreich and Chris Waters joining Towner as executive producers. It will premiere at 7 p.m. Central Time on May 29 as part of Consensus in Austin; on June 1st, the film will be available for free on X at @NounsDoc.
