Sony announcement two leaders to replace Jim Ryanwho retired from the top spot at PlayStation earlier this year.
Effective June 1, 2024, Hideaki Nishino will be appointed CEO of the Platform Business Group of SIE, and Hermen Hulst will be appointed CEO of the Studio Business Group of SIE.
Hiroki Totoki, who served as interim CEO of SIE, will serve as president of SIE in addition to his role as president, COO and CFO of Sony Group Corporation. Nishino and Hulst will report to Totoki and intend to collaborate closely to strengthen each core business while maximizing synergies within SIE.

These two leaders will have clear responsibilities and manage the strategic direction to ensure the focus remains on deepening engagement with existing PlayStation users and expanding experiences to new audiences,” said Totoki in a press release.

Nishino is currently Senior Vice President of the Platform Experience Group and leads the team responsible for developing experiences and technology across PlayStation products and services. The Platform Experience Group pushes the boundaries of gaming in many ways, including the innovations of PlayStation 5, the immersion of PlayStation VR2, and connecting millions of people on PlayStation Network.
In his new role as CEO of the Platform Business Group, Nishino will continue to be responsible for the platform's technology, products, services and experience. He will also oversee relationships with third-party publishers and developers as well as business operations, including sales and marketing of hardware, services and peripherals.

Hulst currently serves as Executive Vice President and Head of PlayStation Studios and is responsible for developing content across multiple devices, including PlayStation consoles and PC, and introducing video game intellectual property to new media such as film and television through PlayStation Productions.

The PlayStation Productions team works on several game adaptations and developed the Emmy Award-winning television series, “The Last of Us,” an adaptation of an award-winning game. In his new role as CEO of the Studio Business Group, Hulst will be responsible for the development, publishing and business operations of SIE's proprietary content.
