The convergence of art and technology has been a hot topic for connoisseurs and collectors since the beginning of this year, as social media continues to flood with AI (Artificial Intelligence)-based art and photography ). While the possibilities are endless, there is some trepidation in the art world about the relevance of NFTs and the role AI plays. A recent event in the city called Nammaweb3, held at Off The Record, attempted to answer some of these questions through panel discussions and digital art exhibitions featuring an array of artists, photographers and collectors NFTs.
Organized by Namma Tribe in collaboration with Colors of India, the event marked a pivotal moment in Chennai's cultural landscape by starting a conversation on Web3 (decentralized version of the web). “Web3 offers freedom and acceptance to artists looking to spread their message,” said Dr. Wafu, an anonymous NFT artist whose Web3 art gives refreshing perspectives to Indian mythology. Take for example Shakuntala wearing sneakers in a modern take on a saree.
Meanwhile, Deepakshi Aggarwal, another NFT artist based in Chandigarh, highlighted the potential of Web3 to support meaningful causes. Through her art, she hopes to raise funds for NGOs working for the welfare of exotic animals. His work Strange Addiction permeates the subconscious of high-tech society and Desa the Obake, inspired by Yakuza culture in Japan.

When asked if more women are now entering the world of Web3, Deepakshi says, “There is a massive demographic of women in Web3 who appreciate art and generate the most sales. »
Prasad Bhatt, an established cartoon artist whose work gained mainstream attention in 2016 on websites such as 9Gag and was featured in New York's Time Square, entered the Web3 community in 2021 and began creating its NFTs. Asked about the possibility of AI replacing an artist, Prasad explains: “Even if AI allows a layman to create art, the thought process and creativity is only linked to the individual who creates the chef -work. » He encourages people to join the Web3 community, where users learn all about AI and Midjourney (a generative artificial intelligence program) before the public.
Arijit Das, an avid collector of minted NFTs, enriched the conversation with his direct experience as a collector. It allows artists to claim ownership of their stories and collect the royalties that are rightful to them. His most valuable work is that of Vimal Chandran. Science fiction folklore which depicts the living folklore of Kerala drawn from a child's perspective.
“AI can help someone stretch the canvas of a photograph if they miss a specific angle or spot, which can save someone money who doesn't need to retake it ” said world-renowned freelance photographer Dheeraj Kandewal.
The turnout for the event is a testament to Chennai's growing presence in the technology landscape, establishing the city as a hub of innovation and creative expression in the digital age.
